This B.C. program has a requirement “ to establish a new business or purchase and improve/expand an existing business that contributes to the economic growth of the province.“ A professional business plan will be an important part of the evidence to support your application.
The B.C. Entrepreneur Immigration Program has restrictions on the type of business you may include in your application. These should be checked on the website at welcomebc.ca. You must demonstrate that you invest at least $200,000, or will own at least one-third (33.3%) of the business in B.C. If your proposed ownership is less than 33.3%, then you must make an investment of at least $1 million in the business. It is important that your business plan makes clear the ownership structure and your planned investment amount.
The B.C. Entrepreneur Immigration Program in fact has a 2 stage application process. Stage One is an online application requiring a “Business Concept Plan” to be submitted. The concept plan must make the opening case for a proposed business, located in B.C. with great potential for success. The Business Concept plan has to score a minimum of 32 points to gain access to Stage Two of the application process
Stage Two of the application centres around a comprehensive business plan which should pick up on the concepts and proposals outlined in Stage One and provide the details to demonstrate that you can create a successful business in B.C.
Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program Entrepreneur Stream
In Ontario there is a similar program known as the OINP Entrepreneur Stream. The application process is similar to B.C. but the program differs in some significant ways. For example, your entrepreneur business plan must demonstrate that your business will create a minimum of two full-time jobs in Ontario. You should read the application guidelines at www.ontario.ca or contact an immigration consultant to find out all the application criteria. Application for this program requires first an Expression of Interest (EOI) including your business concept. If eligible you will later be invited to submit a full, detailed business plan.
